About the Founder of the Project

Terese Jimenez Manalansan, MA, CCC/SLP is a speech language pathologist with 20+ years of experience in the field. She is a licensed speech therapist in New Jersey and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Since 2003 she has dedicated her time in specializing in Augmentative / Alternative Communication. She served as a faculty member for the department of Speech Pathology in the University of The Philippines, Manila in the College of Allied Medical Professions. She also served as an adjunct professor for the Monmouth University Speech-Language Pathology Program in the College of Speech Pathology, Educational Counseling and Leadership in New Jersey (teaching Augmentative and Alternative Communication- AAC). Currently, she is running a certification course in AAC through distance learning in the University of the Philippines Manila.

She completed her master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan where she was awarded the Graduate Professional Scholarship, and the Academic Scholarship sponsored by the Federation of Women's Club of Metropolitan Detroit for WSU Women Students. Upon graduation she was installed as a member of the Honor Society of International Scholars at the said university. She has served for six years at an educational facility catering to individuals with severe and multiple disabilities where she provided evaluations and therapy focused on AAC use. Since 2008, an educational commission in New Jersey currently retains her employment as a speech and language specialist, she also serves as an AAC evaluator for the school. She is currently serving clients with multiple

disabilities and individuals diagnosed within the Autistic Spectrum. Terese has conducted numerous seminars and workshops to train and educate professionals, staff members, and families regarding Augmentative/ Alternative Communication. She has also traveled to Asia to provide free lectures and workshops to Universities and Associations regarding AAC. Her passion is finding the "voice" of her clients where no voice is to be found.  She is also the founder of the TInIG AAC project, which is an outreach project that provides AAC devices to underprivileged individuals with communication disabilities in the Philippines. The project also aims to provide educational and professional development for Filipino SLPs in the area of AAC Intervention.
